Hometown COLUMBINE event Saturday: Elk Grove Village

I'm about to catch a plane back to my hometown of Elk Grove Village, for my high school reunion and a few book events.

Truthfully, I'm a little apprehensive about revisiting high school after all these years, but hopefully it will be enriching, and nice to reacquaint. The first 20 minutes will be the hardest, I'm betting. They better be. Hahaha.

My public presentation/signing on COLUMBINE:

When:  2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3
Where: Elk Grove Village Public Library. 1001 Wellington Ave, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007
Cost: free
What: the official write-up:

Author Dave Cullen will discuss his New York Times bestseller, COLUMBINE. He will present an intimate portrait of two wildly different killers, and describe the turbulent aftermath. There will be a Q&A and book signing.

Barnes & Noble will sell books there, but it's fine to bring a copy you already have to be signed, or just to watch. No need to buy anything.

The book trailer (icon to the right) sums it up quite nicely in under three minutes. One of the SouthPark team created it. Talented guy. He made me seem concise. Click on the book pic for reviews, summary, etc.

See you there. Tell a friend. And if you come, we encourage you to blog/facebook/twitter whatever about it. I'll be happy pose for a pic for you to post.

I started your book at 3:30 a.m. this Wednesday, Sept. 30, and finished it this morning at 1:30 a.m., Oct. 2.

(I grew up without a television, and I was a Lit major in college, so I admit to being a bit of a speed reader.)

I could NOT stop reading it. It was incredibly captivating. I was only in 8th grade when massacre happened, but of course, TCM and the "She Said Yes" story were ingrained in me. I, too, thought/assummed/read the boys were outsiders, loners, losers....

Thank you for writing your book. You wrote it so well -- that's certainly a huge factor in me being able to finish it so quickly -- and I'm sorry you don't have any other books for me to read (yet). I loook forward to your next one!

Good luck tomorrow - I live about an hour and a half away but have other plans and won't be able to attend.

So glad you're coming to Elk Grove Village! I read your book in a few days--I couldn't put it down. It is mesmerizing. The structure and the editing are absolutely impeccable. I was 22 when the events at Columbine h.s. occurred and I remember the absolute horror I felt watching the story unfold. I was not yet a mother at the time, but I remember thinking that I wouldn't want to send my future children to school--those events shook the very foundation of my feelings of safety in the world. After reading your incredibly well-researched book, I was strangely comforted--the events were no less terrifying, but it was a relief to read the truth about what had occurred and get a glimpse into the minds of Eric and Dylan. There was so much unknown during the early reports about this tragedy and I had always wondered what "really" happened.
I told my dad about your book and he read it as well. We're both coming to your signing today and I look forward to hearing you speak.
I hope you publish more books in the future!

Thank you, again. I wonder how many more were as good as we were at hiding our low self image. Small towns, the church and the need to belong.....odd pressure. I try to pass along the message to be nice to everybody, they may end up being a real good friend later in life.
